Well alright, alright!

Matthew McConaughey…

Just his name evokes a smile across my face. He is my Hollywood Husband. Everyone has one; the celebrity that you crush on and although you know nothing about him, wouldn’t think twice about marrying!

I remember having this Hollywood Husband conversation with an old colleague of mine, and she got that giddy, school girl smile on her face when she said it was Channing Tatum. Of course, realizing that both our Husbands were in the movie Magic Mike meant we had to go see it.

Now, I’m not going to profess that Magic Mike was deep, meaningful or thought-provoking in any means. The purpose of it was to showcase hot bods and bring the ladies to the theatre.

And it worked. I enjoyed the movie for what it was, and enjoyed Matthew’s performance for what it was also, for what he wore (and didn’t) and enjoyed every minute of it.

My husband asked me the other day why I like him so much, and often makes fun of the southern accent, which I’m okay with. I don’t expect my Hollywood Husband and my REAL HUSBAND to get along! There’s just something about Matthew. Yes, he is good to look at, charming and has a great smile, but there’s just an easiness about him, his laugh, his southern accent.

I just like him.

I remember loving his character in Dazed and Confused, where he took the line “Just keep livin’” and turned it into a Foundation dedicated to healthy choices and active living for teenagers. (He’s a philanthropist too!)

However, I digress, it was his role as Jake Brigance in A Time to Kill where I really took notice of him and the love affair began. And while he has been in many movies, ranging from Edtv to Two for the Money, he’s probably most well-known for the romantic comedies, such as The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch and my all-time favourite How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

I still “call bullshit”, which is one of my favourite movie lines ever.

However, these days, people are only talking about the hardware he’s racking up at all the award shows. Starting with the Golden Globes last weekend, he won Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Dallas Buyers Club and last night took home another statue from the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actor, for the same movie.

MMc-Best Actor

The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are being handed out tomorrow, and Mr. McConaughey is on the ballot for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. And just announced yesterday, he is up for an Academy Award in March for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role again.

Well alright, alright!

He may be the underdog, but it’s those that you least expect that you should never rule out.

I have not seen Dallas Buyers Club yet, as my life doesn’t afford me the luxury of seeing too many movies aside from children’s movies, but it’s on my list. I hope I can see it, and many of the other nominated films before the Oscars.

Regardless of what you think about him, I think he’s underestimated most of the time and I’m routing for him.

As a good wife should!

Just keep livin’!

Fess up! Who’s your Hollywood Husband (or Wife)?
