The clock is ticking…not the biological kind, the kind that means soon my baby is going to have to move out of the crib and into a big bed.
And frankly, I’m not looking forward to that.
We moved my Little Bird two months before I had the Little Mouse. I had read a few books suggesting that moving them before a baby arrives will help in the child not think they are being replaced; and it worked. She moved into her big bed on Boxing Day and within a week was comfortable and used to her room. In fact, not only did she NOT climb out of the bed after we put her in it, but she stayed there even when she woke up in the morning – until we went to get her!
Something tells me my Little Mouse is going to give me a bigger run for my money, which is why I’m not looking forward to moving her over.
And don’t misunderstand, there is no need to move her, other than the fact that she turns 3 next year and she should probably be in a bed by then. But if it were up to me, she could stay in the crib until her legs stick out the bottom!
Of course this whole big bed issue leads us to the topic of potty training.
{BIG SIGH}
We also had a pretty rough go with our eldest, so this is another thing I’m not looking forward to.
We know the daycare has started putting her on the toilet and we do too. She sits on her Dora seat, and…she sits there…and sits there…and sits there. And nothing happens. She’s actually only gone once, and it was at daycare, not at home.
So that pretty much tells me she’s not ready. And I’m not going to rush her. Trust me, I’m in no hurry to make this process long, agonizing and painful, like it was the first time.
So for now, my Little Mouse will remain a little mouse and when the time is right, we’ll be potty dancing our way to our big bed.
When did you move your kids from the crib to a bed? How was your potty training experience? Easy? Long? I’d love to hear from you!

I just wrote a post about potty training 4 kiddos today. I’m just working on potty training #4 at 22 months now. My first trick is that he doesn’t wear diapers during the day. I didn’t move any of the kids to a bed until 3 and at that age never needed the rails on the side of the big kid bed. Good luck!
