Girls just want to have fun!

I am always thinking of songs to feature on my Music Monday posts, and the other day my Little Mouse was singing a song. At first I wasn’t sure what it was, as she danced around and clapped her hands. She has even taken to shaking her tushie, as Gloria does in the movie Madagascar.

It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And I have to believe that if Cyndi Lauper could see my little girl, she would be flattered.

And she would laugh, because she’s trying her hardest to sing Girls Just Want to Have Funand it’s adorable.

Originally released in 1983, I loved that song, and the video as a little girl. It became an anthem for girl power and feminism. Since then, many artists have covered it, but for my little girls, it was The Chipettes (from the movie Chipwrecked) and Barbie: The Princess & The Popstar who introduced them to this song. They still don’t understand how I know the words, but they love it none-the-less.

So, get your booties shakin’ girls and stand strong and together! Because girls

Happy Monday!

Girls Just Want To Have Fun

By: Cyndi Lauper

I come home in the morning light
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we’re not the fortunate ones
And girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells what you gonna do with your life
Oh daddy dear you know you’re still number one
But girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls – they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls – they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun,
They want to have fun,
They want to have fun…
